IPL or Intense Pulsed Laser Treatments are a fantastic way to diminish age spots, treat sun damage and improve skin texture with no downtime. A licensed technician uses a handhelp device to pulse light to the deep layers of the skin.
How does it feel?
While it is not horribly painful, certain areas do hurt more than others...think being snapped with a hot rubberband. Our wonderful aesthetician, Ana from Dr. Randy Ruddermans Medical Spa, uses a fan to help with any discomfort. The entire procedure lasts less than an hour.
What is the downtime and healing time?
After the procedure your face may feel hot and be flushed. It is fine to apply makeup gently immediatly after or you can just wear a heavy moisterizer. The brown spots begin to look darker 3-7 days after the treatment. Crusting and flaking can occur within 10 days. By two weeks, your face looks amzing with less age spots and silky smooth skin.
Important information about IPL:
*make sure to go to a licensed professional with experience in lasers
*no antibiotics, steroids or retinol for 2 weeks prior to treatment
*best done in winter months because of sun exposure
*certain ethnic skintones are not viable candidates
*Must keep skin extra hydrated for a week after IPL
Our Verdict:
We both LOVED the IPL treatment! We have very different skin types and skin concerns. IPL addressed Kim's sun spots and uneven pigment and Kara's skin texture and fine lines. We both recommend this procedure.
This is the machine used for the laser therapy. It is adjustable for your skin tone.
After cleaning and applying ultrasound ointment to the face, the laser starts on one side.
Pro Tip: Using a handheld fan helps with the snapping feeling of the laser pulse. The whole procedure takes less than an hour. Your face will look quite red immediately following IPL, but it calms down within a few hours.
